    So, after months of unemployment, the husband has a job. It's on the other side of the state. He left this morning and won't be back until late on the 23rd. And then he'll be leaving every Sunday night and returning on Friday nights. During the week he'll stay with some friends we have over there.

    But, really, PAYCHECKS AGAIN!!!

    Christmas has come early to this house.

    My mom loves the pralines from the Southern Candy Company or Makers or Whoever in New Orleans. And none of the ones we can find around here are the same. The ones from Southern Candy are of the creamier variety.

    So, y'all folks on my flist that bake... got praline recipes?

    So, huh...
    ...just got a review in for When Fate Steps In on WTP. Cool. Except it mentions... well, here:

    I read Queen Boadicea's companion piece first. I have to say both of your's and her's were equally wonderful. I loved Severus he had his snarky self with a little bit of vulnerablity that made him oh so huggable. Thank you for this story, I enjoyed it immensely.


    Companion piece? Huh? So, I went to her profile on WTP and it's not there. So, HP flisters, do you know where it is? I would like to read this. Srsly. I mean, hello, it's being billed as a companion piece to my Snarry Games fic. Might be a cool read.

    So... help?

    ETA: [info]leela_cat found what they were talking about. Apparently the companion piece was Queen Boadicea's NaNo work. It is not posted at Walking the Plank yet but I did send an email asking if it was available anywhere.

    Unreliable, Unprofessional Builders
    So we arranged to have our kitchen redone because we have no cooker right now. Therefore we want it done by Christmas so we can cook our Christmas meal.

    We had a builder we hired because he was recommended. He fixed a window in our garage andd put new stairs in for the loft, but not once did he turn up when he was supposed to. Sometimes he would postpone it by a day; when he did turn up it was never before 11am, usually closer to 12pm. It's an hour's drive to get here, so clearly he wasn't leaving home before 10am at the earliest.

    The only thing left to do was the kitchen. He didn't call us about it so we called him Wednesday night. Oh he's coming Monday, his wife told us. Oh and you need to find an electrician to work with him... So we scrabbled around trying to find one on short notice. Got a nice firm who would come Monday. Yesterday we got a message. Oh he's not coming Monday because he has another job to do first. He'll be there Tuesday, and he doesn't want the electrician til Wednesday.

    Dad rang the wife back and said is he definitely coming Tuesday? Because he's never here when he says and he does good work but it's getting annoying. And she told us oh well if you feel like that we won't do it at all. We rang back today to confirm it and yes the builder feels we have insinuated he's unreliable so he's cancelling the job completely!

    So it looks like Christmas dinner will be cooked in the small combioven and the microwave and we'll have to find veggies we can do without having a hob...

    So if you live in the Yorkshire area, don't use J Foster & Son. (The actual builder is Mark Foster but the firm is in, I think, his father's name).
